Vivian Shao Chen Ceramics

Original artwork created to reflect the textures in the process of making small batch ceramics.
The clay goes through many steps before being a finished ceramic piece: a clay ball, a slippery cylinder on the wheel
with slip flying off the bat, a leather hard piece that is dried and trimmed, bisqued, glazed, fired…

"I like how shapeless and organic it can look sometimes, and be so geometric and structured in other cases.
I also like the idea of these as expansive landscapes which is contrary to how ceramics are generally portrayed - as objects with distinct silhouettes."

A little print book as Vivian's personal project is coming soon. Learn more about her process here.

 Family and Friends

Family and Friends is a New York-based non-profit with the goal of crossing over different forms of arts. The idea is to break the closed circle of the art system, looking for new formats of art exposure, far from the elitism of the established art institutions. Taking inspiration from the symbology of a dragonfly, the iconography evokes adaptability and strength.

Haystack Stories

Illustrations for a nostalgia-based blog
by Jenna Gottlieb and Jayna Maleri

Haystack Stories is a website rooted in nostalgia.
We’re obsessed with those rare, magical finds that have stood the test of time—everything from a T-shirt we’ve hung onto since high school to a scent that transports us to the past to the music we listened to while learning how to drive. We love exploring the relationship between then and now through objects, ephemera and memories.
Past. Present. Perfect.”
