Vivian Shao Chen Ceramics
commissioned artwork
Original artwork created to reflect the textures in the process of making small batch ceramics.
The clay goes through many steps before being a finished ceramic piece: a clay ball, a slippery cylinder on the wheel with slip flying off the bat,
a leather hard piece that is dried and trimmed, bisqued, glazed, fired…
"I like how shapeless and organic it can look sometimes, and be so geometric and structured in other cases. I also like the idea of these as expansive landscapes which is contrary to how ceramics are generally portrayed - as objects with distinct silhouettes."
A little print book as Vivian's personal project is coming soon. Learn more about her process here.
